Chairman

The Chairman leads the Executive Committee, chairs monthly meetings, and supports sub-committee chairs in achieving club objectives.

Why This Role Matters:
The Chairman ensures accountability and direction for the club’s operational delivery, fostering a culture of inclusion and achievement.

Key Responsibilities:
- Chair Executive Committee meetings
- Liaise with all Sub-Committee Chairs
- Support club-wide communication and alignment
- Provide operational leadership and escalation resolution

Deliverables:
- Monthly meeting outcomes and follow-ups
- Coordination of sub-committee plans and integration

President

The President is the senior ceremonial figure of the club and chairs the AGM. This role promotes the club’s values and acts as an ambassador within the community.

Why This Role Matters:
Upholds the traditions, spirit, and integrity of SRUFC while providing stability and support.

Key Responsibilities:
- Chair the AGM
- Represent the club at key functions and events
- Support continuity and advice for executive decisions

Deliverables:
- Effective AGM
- Strengthened club relationships and legacy support

 

Past-President

The Past President is a valued advisory figure within SRUFC, offering continuity, perspective, and support to the Executive Committee. The role provides a vital link between past and present leadership, and steps in for the President when required.

Why This Role Matters:
Ensures consistent leadership by drawing on experience, reinforces club values, and supports the smooth transition of governance across committees and seasons.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Act as a trusted advisor to the President and Executive Committee
  • Step in for the President at events or meetings if needed
  • Promote continuity, learning, and alignment with long-term club aims
  • Support decision-making through historical insight and institutional knowledge

Honorary Secretary

The Secretary manages club documentation, ensures timely communication, and supports the administrative function of the Executive Committee.

Why This Role Matters:
Ensures consistency, clarity, and compliance in club governance.

Key Responsibilities:
- Circulate agendas and record minutes
- Maintain official club records
- Support coordination of AGM/EGM

Deliverables:
- Minutes, policies and records
- AGM/EGM coordination

Honorary Treasurer

The Treasurer manages the club’s financial performance, supports budget holders, and ensures regulatory compliance.

Why This Role Matters:
Keeps the club financially sustainable and transparent.

Key Responsibilities:
- Maintain financial records
- Produce monthly and annual accounts
- Support budget setting and control

Deliverables:
- Accurate monthly and year-end reporting
- Cashflow forecasting

Vice-Chair

Supports the Chair in operational duties and chairs working groups or project areas as needed.  It is expected that the vice-chair will transition to Club Chair upon completion of their term.

Why This Role Matters:
Provides continuity and additional leadership capacity.

Key Responsibilities:
- Deputise for Chair
- Lead special projects
- Mentor new committee members

Deliverables:
- Leadership cover and project execution

Junior Chair

Represents the M&J committee at Executive level and acts as liaison to ensure voice of junior rugby is integrated.

Why This Role Matters:
Ensures player pathway and club unity.

Key Responsibilities:
- Represent M&J at Exec
- Feed back M&J plans and updates

Deliverables:
- Regular updates and advocacy

Club Captain

Represents playing members of senior sides and promotes team spirit and cohesion.

Why This Role Matters:
Helps bridge the gap between Exec and players.

Key Responsibilities:
- Gather and present feedback from players
- Promote club values on and off the pitch

Deliverables:
- Improved team participation and feedback

County Rep

Liaises with the County RFU to ensure club is informed and represented in regional matters.

Why This Role Matters:
Links the club to broader RFU governance.

Key Responsibilities:
- Attend County meetings
- Report back to Executive

Deliverables:
- Club representation and advocacy

Squash Club Rep

Ensures the squash section is represented at committee level and integrated into club planning.

Why This Role Matters:
Promotes cross-sport collaboration and ensures facility use is balanced.

Key Responsibilities:
- Liaise between squash and rugby users
- Support calendar and facility planning

Deliverables:
- Inclusive planning and shared facilities

RugbySafe Officer

Ensures the club meets all RFU RugbySafe requirements for safety and wellbeing.

Why This Role Matters:
Maintains a culture of care and compliance.

Key Responsibilities:
- Lead risk assessments and RugbySafe planning
- Report to Exec and support coaches and managers

Deliverables:
- Annual audit and plan
- Emergency readiness

 

Grounds / Estates Lead

The Grounds / Estates Lead is responsible for the safe, consistent and high-quality maintenance and presentation of all playing surfaces at the club, including rugby and squash courts if applicable.

Why This Role Matters:
This role directly impacts player safety, game quality, and the club’s ability to deliver fixtures throughout the season. With responsibility for both in-season and out-of-season work, the Grounds Lead ensures pitches are playable, safe, and aligned with RFU expectations.

Key Responsibilities:
- Plan and implement out-of-season maintenance schedule (e.g. reseeding, fertilising, rolling)
- Conduct regular in-season upkeep including mowing, line marking, flag placement, and treatments
- Manage equipment and liaise with suppliers/contractors
- Perform pitch inspections and decide on playability in accordance with the club’s Play Policy
- Liaise with section leads (e.g. Junior Chair, Playing Committee) before making cancellation decisions
- Support the Facilities Committee with ground improvement plans and emergency maintenance
- Develop contingency pitch usage plans to maximise availability

Deliverables:
- Updated and executed seasonal maintenance plan
- Weekly status reports and updates for match managers
- Safe, maintained pitches ready for all formats and teams

 

County Representative


The County Representative acts as the club’s liaison with the Shropshire RFU, ensuring SRUFC is represented in county discussions and contributes to wider rugby development across the region.

Why This Role Matters:
Connects the club to the county game, influences regional rugby strategy, and ensures our players, coaches, and volunteers are supported and recognised at county level.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Represent SRUFC at Shropshire RFU meetings and forums
  • Communicate relevant county information, opportunities, and initiatives to the club
  • Support the planning and delivery of county fixtures, events, and representative programmes
  • Contribute to county rugby strategy, development plans, and governance as required

Deliverables:

  • Clear two-way communication between SRUFC and Shropshire RFU
  • Club involvement in county rugby initiatives
  • Active contribution to the growth and governance of the game locally
